Employment Equity

St Stithians acknowledges and recognises inequalities in the workplace associated with past

discriminatory practices, primarily with regards to race, gender and disability.

Employment Equity is seen as a means to eradicate unfair discrimination and promote affirmative action measures where there is under-representation of any qualified group.

The College’s Employment Equity Plan specifies targets for under-represented groups in different occupational categories and levels which impacts on all recruitment decisions.

In terms of its Employment Equity Policy, the College subscribes to the following fundamental principles:

1. the elimination of all forms of unfair discrimination from all aspects of employment.

2. proper recruitment and selection procedures with appointment on merit

3. due consideration of internal applicants wherever appropriate

4. clearly designating any post as being of a permanent, contractual, temporary or casual nature, with employment conditions properly formalised in letters of appointment

5. developing and using skills to the fullest extent possible, and where most appropriate

6. open and direct lines of communication and regular contact with staff.
